BIELLA AND CANAVESE THE WOOL LANDS

BIELLAexperience

The wool land: a road of fabrics culture confined between the pre-alpine lakes and Turin made of sometimes wild plateaus that merge timeless villages in Pievi and Castelli creating a rich texture like the rare fabrics that continue to be woven here !!

If not more Wool ... but Fabric !!! The fabric of the coat that Givenchy has sewn for Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of the most glamorous among those preserved in the Pria di Biella Archive: a precious historical memory, made of thousands of volumes, sketches and fabrics that tell the textile industry Italian, from the eighteenth century to today. The archive, in one of the oldest factories in Biella, is among the buildings recovered along the Strada della Lana that runs from Biella to Borgosesia: 50 kilometers in the most famous woolen textile district in the world ... today the wool has disappeared .. but .. definitely not all .. some very luxury expressions remain, for the few woolen mills of absolute excellence, in this area where the harmonious multiplicity of its landscapes happily coexist with a rich heritage of history and art. This is the right place for those wishing to hunt for remote rural parishes and ancient fortified villages, enjoying good food and good wine, in this area of hinge between the alpine glaciers, the Canavese mountains and the Vercelli plain. So  from the pre-Alpine lake of Viverone, where hidden the remains of pile-dwelling villages built in the Bronze Age, Castles unfold, such as that of Roppolo, villages such as  Piverone with the turreted gateway of the thirteenth century or better again the Ricetto di Candelo, where time has stopped, and finally the parish churches, such as Pieve di San Secondo, a jewel of Biella's Romanesque architecture, which in summer hosts an International Festival of Ancient Music, and the magnificent sanctuary of Oropa ..one of the most beautiful and ancient Marian shrines ..Then the view gives way to the Bessa plateau, where the dense vegetation. of this natural reserve hides the "ciapei" heaps of pebbles 15-20 meters high, which give the place an absolutely unique appearance and the natural reserves from the Burcina Park, a particular natural reserve appreciated for the wonderful blooms of azaleas and rhododendrons, and the wild Baraggione plateau considered "the last European savannah" where you can find mills, sparse birches and majestic oaks and it represents the boundary line between the Biella wool and Vercelli civilization of rice. To get to its capital Biella, the ancient Bugella, where we can admire the Piazza della Cisterna, the splendid nine-storey Romanesque bell tower and in the parish church of S. Stefano, one of the most beautiful baptisteries in Piedmont and get lost in its high quality fabrics worked with noble fibers whose practice has plurimillennial origins that continues to pulsate in the eco-fashion and design store in the disused factory of the former Trombetta woolen mill: an experimental workshop of social utility and laboratory for young talents (as well as a perfect example of industrial restyling), commissioned by the Biellese artist Michelangelo Pistoletto as in the refined woolen mills
